Call for Papers
AUT University and the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) wish to invite submissions from scholars and practitioners to present at the Annual Conference at the Waiheke Island Resort on Waiheke Island, just of the coast of Auckland from 29 November - 1 December.
Conference theme
The broad theme for this year's conference is Convenient and Inconvenient Truths. Presenters are challenged to consider how the conclusions of their research challenge existing beliefs, assumptions and approaches to best practice. In doing so, presenters should conclude whether the results of their presentation should be considered a convenient or inconvenient truth.
Submission Guidelines
Completed research or a work-in-progress may be proposed as either:
- a 25-minute oral presentation (including questions)
- workshop
Presentations and workshops should include a title and abstract. Abstracts should be sufficiently developed to convey the relevance or significance of the topic to sport management, relevant literature, clarity of the conceptual framework, appropriate methodology, completed data analysis, and a discussion and recommendations/strategies practitioners could viably implement. We encourage participation from researchers involved in sport history, sport sociology, sport media and other areas to submit.
Presentations from practitioners are especially encouraged. Abstracts should identify the issue to be discussed, the relevance or significance of the topic to other practitioners as well as academics (e.g. a possible area for research and/or an important issue for sport management pedagogy/curriculum development).
Abstract Format
Each abstract must meet the following format specifications:
- One page maximum, including the presentation's title on the first line and author(s) with institution(s) on the second line
- Both lines bold-faced and centred 2.5cm from the top of the page
- Text should be single-spaced on A4 paper with 2.5cm margins in 12 point, Times New Roman font.
- A blind copy (omitting author/institution line) should also be provided.
Deadline
Submissions must be received by 30 June 2007. Submissions received after the deadline not guaranteed to be reviewed.
Review Process
Submissions will be subjected to a blind review process. Submission of an abstract indicates the intent of the presenter(s) to attend the conference. No more than 2 first-authored presentations will be accepted from the same person, including all co-authorships, for either 25- or 75-minute presentations. Conference abstracts are accepted on the basis that they represent original work and should not have previously been published.
