NZTRI’s tourism and technology research programme area sets out to strengthen collaborative and interdisciplinary research and development projects that integrate the key themes of technology, tourism, social and economic well-being.

Areas of interest include:

• helping firms, communities and destinations to maximise the opportunities associated with using technologies that enhance communication and information exchange in tourism
• the use of ICT in tourism and community development and community informatics
• the role of ICT in sustainable tourism development
• tourism SME networks and ICT
• information management in the cultural/heritage sector
• ICT and tourism planning/policy
• ICT impacts of tourism distribution channels and industry structure
• ICT adoption and open-source solutions for tourism
